== Name ==
The name 'Linea Ega' comes from the [[Laevanaak]] word for script '{{script|script=laevanaak|t=}}' and the name of the first letter of the [[Laenavaak|Laenavaak Alphabet]]. The common [[German]] word derived from this is 'Linearschrift A', which doubles the 'script' part. In [[English]] this is most commonly shortened to just 'Linear A'.

It has been thought that 'A' in the german and english versions replacing 'Ega' is due to the letter being the first one in their respective alphabets, but another common theory is that the name of the latin letter 'A' comes from Laevanaak 'Ega' and the english pronunciation is just from the ɣ > j shift.

It can be assumed that there were more shards than have been found, since they are theorized to be temporary writing materials and keeping them around would have been of no use.
