The Rauratoshan Kingdom (English: [ˌɹaʊɹəˈtoʊʃɑn], Rokadong: 󴁷 󴀄󴀣 Sinyasan Rauratoshan [ˈʃíɲâsān ˌɾɑ̀wɾə̄ˈtóʃân]), often shortened to just Rauratoshan, is a country on the Southern Ŋafrican coast, north of the Islands of Ʒimh Gwynh, and south of Vallis Draconum.

Etymology

"Rauratoshan" comes from the Rokadong words "rauru" (star) and "shan" (path); the intermediate "to" is from Rokadong's genitive particle. Therefore, the full name means "the path of the stars". Owing to the similar word selshan, meaning galaxy, the name might also refer to the Milky Way galaxy, or the Galaxy System.

History

Ŋimeline

In-universe, Rauratoshan appeared in Nguhcraft in 2013 AD (Kanata 88, 2426 MK on the Rokaselan calendar), an event known as the Spectradom Incursion. It has a significant amount of history from before this point, but this is not entirely relevant to Nguhcraft.

Soon afterward, the organization responsible rebranded as the Madness Multiverse Missionary. Meanwhile, the nobility were panicking because the entirety of the king's family had vanished. In a quick power play, one Lord Kirlan Mohito (a cousin of the former king Azbin) installed a recent offworlder, Nozomi, in the role of quing regent. Several other houses, notably House Randa, were not fans. However, House Mohito did have the crown beforehand, so this was allowed to continue.

Since then, partially due to positive Nguhcraft influences like the Kingdom of Kyaw Cen and Elemental City, Rauratoshan has become more progressive as time goes on, much to the chagrin of some...

In September 2025, Rauratoshan became involved in the Maraśa Civil War. The Madness Multiverse Missionary hid a nether portal on a boat of envoys headed to Maraśa to investigate the situation; additionally, one of these envoys was a fervent supporter of the Preservation Party, and convinced the sun priests that Quing Nozomi was actually of divine heritage. The fallout of this incident led to the Rauratoshan Constitutional Crisis.

Timeline

In fakeworld time, Rauratoshan was founded by Nozomi on 25 November 2024. It was originally known as Akula[1] before the name Rauratoshan was created.

Rauratoshan began as a simple base on an island served by the Cenrail Coastal Line. Fin of the Port of Eras helped Astaryuu build a stop for the base, which came to be known as Remulapola. Almost immediately, Astaryuu began work on developing the RTS Loop, so that it would be easy to build the settlements they wanted to build.

Almost immediately afterward, Jamie Dragin joined as well, and established Elemental City. The main rail of Rauratoshan, the RTS Loop, was finished by them in December.

Rauratoshan has had mixed interactions with other ŋations. Rauratoshan began a policy of locking all chests which aren't public following the Great Chest Locking, even though they were not directly stolen from. They tried to help multiple Amujs, but failed to help any of them remain stable. Relations started strong with Coldba (Cuba) and the Port of Eras, but grew more negative as the Port of Eras went on a very long hiatus, until the Ŋafrican Ŋapocalypse. That being said, Astaryuu feels very bittersweet about it all, and designed Irisela Castle based on a castle they found in evermore Era. Relations with Coldba (Cuba) remain up in the air.

Rauratoshan has plans to help produce the Nguhlympics, in the absence of its former lead developer. They are building a stadium, the Stellar Arena, for this exact purpose, but when this will occur is not yet determined.

Geography

Rauratoshan is primarily comprised of jungle, forest, and savanna biome. Its borders are entirely natural boundaries, traditionally defined as the Islands of Ʒimh Gwynh (which are not claimed by Rauratoshan, but the intervening sea serves as its boundary), the Magaha River, and the desert of Ŋegypt.

Ŋafrican Mainland

Much of Rauratoshan's territory is on the mainland of Ŋafrica. Landmarks of mainland Rauratoshan include Chunkerror Cliffs and the Lilac Forest. Four of the eight stops on the Rauratoshan Loop are on the mainland.

Chunkerror Cliffs

Main article: Chunkerror Cliffs

The Chunkerror Cliffs are a landmark near the town of Astona. Contrary to their name, they are not the site of an actual chunk error, but instead, the site of a mining operation wherein an entire chunk was leveled down to bedrock.

Amethyst Hills

Main article: Azeria, Rauratoshan

The Amethyst Hills are east of the Chunkerror Cliffs. Named after the town of Lígatal ("amethyst"), these hills have little to do with the color purple, and were likely simply named as such to correspond (Nguhcraftially) with Astona ("copper").

The city of Azeria is also found near the Amethyst Hills. It contains many important buildings, including the Royal Bank of Rauratoshan and the Madness Multiverse Missionary tower. It's very Nether-themed, likely due to ease of access thanks to the included Leshrail stop and nearby Island of .

Vanilla Lake

Main article: Elemental City

Vanilla Lake partially forms the northern border of Rauratoshan with Vallis Draconum. It is a large body of water, partially manmade. Elemental City and Vallis Ignium sit on the coast of Vanilla Lake.

Lilac Forest

The Lilac Forest is the northwestern corner of Rauratoshan. It's almost entirely wild, save for the town of New Motostoke.

Islands of Rauratoshan

Rauratoshanian territory includes eight islands: Naho Island, Rafi Island, Irisela Island, Murya Island, Island of :worst_anguish:, Island of :hotspot:, Rasókairi Island, and Palontana Island. The first four of these all are stops on the RTS Loop as well, while Rasókairi Island is also a stop on the RTS Sugar Line.

Naho Island

Main article: Naho Island

Naho Island serves as the core of Rauratoshanian power. It contains Remulapola, which is where Original House of Caramella and Original House of Draconis are found. Its most prominent landmark is the Rhetaleta Shrine, a shrine to the moon goddess Létakkíla which is protected territory.

Rafi Island

Main article: Rafi Island

Rafi Island is the other major island of Rauratoshan. It hosts the Royal Academy of the Rauratoshan Kingdom, a major institute of learning in Rauratoshan, as well as the towns of Yunrai and Astona.

Irisela Island

Main article: Irisela Island

Irisela Island is very close to Naho Island, and holds the actual castle of Rauratoshan's royalty, Irisela Castle. For this reason, the capital of Rauratoshan is considered Irisela Island, rather than Remulapola proper. However, beyond its purpose of housing nobility and other such people, Irisela Island is not very significant.

Murya Island

Main article: Murya Island

Murya Island is somewhat close to Irisela Island. It is most well known for its observatory, Zanmalaté Observatory. It also hosts the town of Ruviyatangan.

Island of :hotspot:

Main article: Island of :hotspot:

Island of is a Nguhcordian-named island which hosts the gateway to the mainland Nether. It is planned to connect to Fallenarbor Town. Originally, Fallenarbor Town was going to be on the Nether side of Island of , but the Nether side of Island of is a soul sand valley, and soul sand valleys suck.

Island of :worst_anguish:

Main article: Island of :worst_anguish:

Island of is a Nguhcordian-named island which hosts the Rauratoshan Vulgar Authority.

Rasókairi and Palontana Islands

Main articles: Rasókairi Island, Palontana Island

Rasókairi Island and Palontana Island are islands formerly bordering the Vazr which became part of Rauratoshan in February 2025. These islands were added together as "New Kairi Island District". These two islands host two towns, one of which hosts a ŊARN stop: Rasórabong.

The Rauratoshanian royal banner is the form of the Rauratoshanian flag presented ingame. The white chevron and spiral represent the sun and the land; the sun is said to be bathing the land in light, while the people on the land (the Rauratoshanians) are striving for the sun. The black stripe represents the work of the people, or more loosely, their blood. The pale blue stripes on either side represent the crown, who supports the people in turn.

There are also unofficial banners based on the royal banner of Rauratoshan, usually used for decoration. These generally keep the same design as the royal flag, but change the colors or the emblem. For example, the Rauratoshan embassy in Chillvana is decorated with two banners which use the same design as the royal banner, but with a darker blue and red replacing black, to match the flag of Coldba (Cuba). Officially, the Multiverse Madness Missionary's Office of War is decorated with a communist version of the royal flag, with a hammer and sickle replacing the stylized sun and red replacing pale blue. However, there is no hammer-and-sickle banner pattern in Nguhcraft, so the breeze pattern is used instead.

The flag of Rauratoshan is based on the banner. However, the mountains are more complex, and drawn as a "pine green" instead of white, and the sun symbol is simplified compared to the banner version.

Demographics and Culture

Rauratoshan is made up primarily of kanvas. Astaryuu approximates their unique morphology in Nguhcraft through the use of the Customizable Player Models mod. The majority of Rauratoshan's kanvas are of the Akuylian race, which typically have blue or cyan fur patterns, but all kanva races are present in Rauratoshan.

Cuisine

The primary grain of Rauratoshan is rice, since in their previous world it was easy to grow thanks to the large amount of shallow water in the Rokaselan archipelago. Staple meals often involve a bed of loose rice grains ( tecéla), but rice cakes ( fomah) are common as well.

The declared ŋational dish of Rauratoshan is called the "Starlight Roll", and is a salmon sushi roll with glowberry. It's described as "similar to the B.C. roll, though I'm allergic to fish in real life so I'm not entirely sure." It's represented in-game as a simple salmon roll.

Languages

Rokadong is the only official language of Rauratoshan. Officially speaking, this means that Rokadong language classes are provided in Rauratoshanian schools. However, English and Spanish are "state-recognized working languages."

For these working languages, language education is not mandatory, and neither is non-government signage in the target language. However, businesses operating in Rauratoshan are expected to have English and Spanish translation services, or plainly disclose that they do not offer such services, and government bodies (such as the Royal Bank of Rauratoshan) are required to offer services in all such languages.

It is of note that most Rauratoshanian schools, despite the lack of a mandate to do so, do offer education in English and Spanish. These are typically offered as an elective, however.

Aside from English and Spanish, no minority languages, like Ferritumulic Latin or Nenevesian, receive any special standing in the Rauratoshan Kingdom's legal system. The government of Rauratoshan is currently practicing multilingualism and will attempt to accomodate linguistic needs even for these other languages, but private businesses need not follow suit, nor is this guaranteed in any way. The RARK has collected the following demographics for language use in Rauratoshan:

Language Status % spoken Details
Rokadong Official 66%
English Working 45%
Spanish Working 32% Signs often do not use Spanish text in-game. Blame the 4 lines and no typesetting restrictions on in-game signs.
Japanese Minority 11% Recognized working language in Elemental District.
Ferritumulic Latin Minority 1% Spoken in Elemental District.
Lunarian Minority 1% No documented use outside New Kairi Province before 2026.
Amphorean Minority 0% Exactly thirteen speakers are currently documented using this language, all of whom are in a pseudo-deceased state under overwatch by the Madness Multiverse Mansion.

Religion

Main article: Yukacan

Yukacan is by far the most popular religion of Rauratoshan. It is a polytheistic religion with many sub-groups based on the deities the given community deems to be important. Some of these deities are from other Nguhcraftian religions: namely Ætérnal (often referred to as  Ngod [ˈŋɔ́d]), Charlotte ( Cárlota [ˈtʃa᷇ːrōtɐ̄]), and Si‘ihul ( Si‘ihul [sìːˈjʊ́l]]). It is believed that Ætérnalism reached Rauratoshan through Miŋejácár, while Anaku has had amicable relations with Rauratoshan, and Si‘ihul is also worshipped in other ŋations Rauratoshan likes.

In this manner, Yukacan is considered synthetic to some degree. Rauratoshan's royal lineage is said to be closely linked to the theology of Yukacan. It is said that the leader of the pantheon gave the first king of Rauratoshan the royal regalia of Rauratoshan. Therefore, Yukacan is the de facto official religion of Rauratoshan. In Rauratoshan's source world, the flexibility of the religious structure allowed Yukacan to essentially absorb entire pantheons as needed in the conquest of the Quill Kingdom (Great Kingdom of Fitárvi). However, Yukacan is treated rather loosely by official religion standards in Nguhcraft's Rauratoshan. Citizenship does not require any Yukacan rituals, for example. However, freedom of religion is still not currently guaranteed in Rauratoshan.

Kanva kinship

Rauratoshanian people, at the basic level, are divided into "houses" (clans), then families. Nation-like identities like "Nahoan" stand beyond both, of course. However, grouping up based on profession is also very common. For kanvas, there are also six races to consider: Akúlia (cyan), Mainang (green), Kapríka (yellow), Ramári (red), Sokríya (magenta), and Mabran (blue).

Kinship is mainly matrilineal. For example, when a man and a woman marry, it is expected that the father take on the mother's family name - or at least, that their children would take on the mother's family name. However, there are exceptions - mainly, if a family grows powerful enough, the mother's family name might come to be treated as a house name, and therefore, the children would get the family name of their father.

Almost all forms of social strata to which a Rauratoshanian resides have historically considered part of one's "identity", including their name. However, in the modern day, this link is not as strong, as house membership has been de-emphasized, at least for the common folk.

Politics

Governance

Main article: Politics of Rauratoshan

At the time of the Rauratoshanian incursion, Rauratoshan was an absolute monarchy, though its monarch at the time died in the process, and no heirs were transferred either, so a new dynasty was required. While the official English translation for the ruling monarch is "Quing Regent", Rokadong documentation uses the gendered terms "king regent" and "queen regent" in addition to "quing regent".

Regency

The member of the royal family with any "regent" title historically has final say over political decisions, though generally the regent's spouse and anyone else the regent allows to do so is also allowed to make political decisions. In general, it is assumed that the monarch whose parent was regent of Rauratoshan before them will be regent of Rauratoshan, unless they give this power to their spouse.

Parliament

In February 2025, Quing Regent Nozomi converted Rauratoshan into a constitutional monarchy, an act known as the Reconstitution of Rauratoshan. Some monarchy-loyalists have stated that this is madness, and that the mayor of Elemental City has put the queen up to this. Nevertheless, they made a party anyway.

There are 25 ministers in the Parliament of the Rauratoshan Kingdom, five per district. This is significantly lower than bodies like historic Hentzo, to which the quing regent said "a more realistic number would be 200, but good luck fitting that many seats in a Minecraft build". One chosen spokesperson of the party or coalition with a majority of seats in Parliament is the Prime Minister of Rauratoshan. At present, this position is held by Jamie Dragin (LR-ED).

Other offices

Most other top-level organizations in Rauratoshan are tied up in what are referred to as "crown courts." These are organizations which report to the Quing or to Parliament, though occasionally they can act in place of the quing. Most of the time, leadership of these organizations is given to other member houses of the so-called "Royal Table" - noble houses which the current quing regent favors, such as Houses Paloma and Jintanik.

Arguably the most notable crown court is the Rauratoshan Office of the Frontier, which manages customs and migration. As a branch of the military, the ROOF can act as a whistleblower whenever it senses something is wrong and, if needed, activate Rauratoshan's war engines. However, most organizations of Rauratoshan's government are crown courts:

Districts

Rauratoshan is formally divided into five districts: Irisela Province, Rafi Province, Rekalekatana Province, Rasókairi Province, and Elemental District.

Each district is further divided into counties. For Irisela Province, the counties fall entirely on coastal lines, with Irisela County, Naho County, and Murya County. For Rafi Province, the counties fall on dimensional lines, with Fallenarbor City being considered a county of Rafi Province. Rekalekatana Province is divided into Lígatal County, Azeria County, and Gilci County. Rasókairi Province has two counties: the titluar Rasókairi County as well as Palontana County.

The four districts that use the name "province" are all under direct control of the Rauratoshanian crown, while Elemental District is a semi-autonomous district, and is mostly free to make its own decisions as long as they pay a portion of their taxes to the Rauratoshanian Crown and respect certain other laws of Rauratoshan.

Economy

Main article: Musan

Rauratoshan's major economic pulls currently are of the farming variety. For example, the sculk farm in Azeria and the tree farm in Elemental City are significant. However, there is an in-progress initiative, the so-called "Star-Path Minigames", to bring more service-based economic progress to Rauratoshan. The first building constructed for this initiative is the work-in-progress Jungle Temple Run in Remulapola.

The kingdom uses a currency referred to as "gundarimusan" (󴀗󴂽󴃋, literally "crown marks"), or just "musan" (󴃋, literally "marks"). The symbol used for musan ingame is "₻", though the symbol preferred is a Rokadong letter () with two horizontal lines through it. The currency is backed primarily by raw gold, but distributed with paper; current regulation by the Rauratoshan Office of the Treasury is that ₻2 is equal to 5 raw gold. Musan can also be subdivided into 3 firos (󴁣󴃃, "shilling"), each worth 12 payang (, "penny"); that is, there are 36 (or 100 in seximal) payang to a musan.

The Royal Bank of Rauratoshan in Azeria manages the coffers of the Rauratoshan Kingdom, as well as conversions from diamond, raw gold, and raw iron into musan, and vice versa.

Trivia

  • At the time of its formation, the eastern border of the Rauratoshan Kingdom was defined as that of the Nguhngle Reserve and its western borders were with the Vazr and then the Port of Eras. All three have since been dissolved.
