* ⟨nh⟩ and ⟨Nh⟩ becomes ⟨ñ⟩ and ⟨Ñ⟩.
* ⟨ph⟩ and ⟨Ph⟩ becomes ⟨f⟩ and ⟨F⟩.
* ⟨qu⟩ and ⟨Qu⟩ becomes ⟨w⟩ and ⟨W⟩.
* [d] and [k] are now allowed to participate in diphthongs with a single vowel.
* ⟨ô⟩ monophthong nucleus become ⟨o⟩.
* Coda ⟨n⟩ becomes ⟨ŋ⟩.
* The hook tone (hỏi) no longer exists. Words formerly spelled with the hook tone are now spelled using the tilde tone (ngã) instead.
