*appears as a result of umlauting, may either be romanized as the phoneme without umlaut with "o" after it; /ɤ/ ⟨eo⟩, or as the phoneme without the sound change, but with the umlauting diacritic; /ɤ/ ⟨ë⟩. The only exception is /ɯ/ which is always romanized as ⟨u⟩ for consistency, even if it occurs as a result of umlauting.
Any vowel except ə can be nasalized, which is romanized with a tilde. In digraphs, the first letter gets the tilde. If spelled with the umlaut diacritic, the tilde should go over the umlaut.
Diphthongs
Any vowel except schwa may appear in a diphthong with /ʊ/. That's romanized as a ⟨Vu⟩ digraph, where V is the romanization of the first vowel.
