Old Cuba /oʊld ˈkjuːbə/, previously and informally known as Cuba, was a nation from Season 1. Old Cuba was the nearest-east land of Guam 1, south across the Southwestern Sea from Wolfland, west of Nguhrizona, and situated against the world border. As most active and prosperous location in all of Season 1, it became a home to many players and hosted a variety of structures and farms.

Before the transfer from Season 1 to Season 2, Ætérnal copied multiple structures of the world to paste into the new server. Included in this was an incomplete portion of Old Cuba, which was pasted in on July 2024 between Chillvana and Frostanamo Bay in Coldba (Cuba).

Notable Events

Note from the Thieve's Guild declaring the protection of the ocean mob farm.

After swimming from Guam 1, KateThePanPlate encountered a land she decided to make into the Empire of Cuba on December 16th, 2020. In the early days, Old Cuba was home to just Kate, Agma Schwa, and Unatwain /ˌʌnəˈtweɪn/ (previously known as Timo, Timolee, or Shpo).

Mainland was intended to be the primary location of activity in the server, but after Kate established Old Cuba, she wanted to fill the barren landscape and offered new players to become a part of Old Cuba. Because Old Cuba already had a warp (the Large Hadron Collider) and Kate was very active, players frequently accepted and moved to the country.

An unknown discord user colonized a portion of Old Cuba on behalf of Sweden-Ŋərway. The colony went by the name "Christiania".

As more people joined Old Cuba, the land was populated with bases and farms.

When Nguhrizona was established, a rail was constructed to pass through the mountains separating it from Old Cuba. A third addition to that rail was added later to connect to Wolfland.

Every Nguhstream, participants would receive modded items. Kate was a frequent participant and over time grew to obtain a large number of powerful items. Among them were tools enchanted with Efficiency X, which she used to remove a mountain and add more space, as well as a Channeling II trident and Saturation armor, making her nearly unkillable. Only JANVS has managed to defeat her in battle.

Old Cuba's ocean mob farm was once claimed under the protection of the Thieves' Guild in order to prevent the farm from being attacked by Kate, despite the fact that she never expressed opposition to it in any capacity and it was built on her land. Nothing came of this and operations resumed as normal.

Art

  • Border Writing - As part of the intrigue of living next to the world border, some writing was created agaisnt the dirt wall that used to be part of a cliff in Old Cuba.

"PP" written on the Cuban border

  • SEND NUDES - The text "SEND NUDES" was commanded into the air above the Great Farm, written in flames. The flames were changed from orange to blue and it has since eroded away.

  • Amgs - A wool Among Us crewmate in Kate's house.

  • The LCB - A giant "voiceless linguo-cribriformal plosive" (LCB for short) in extIPA notation was written in cobblestone in the Cuban sky.

  • Magma Schwa - Agma Schwa written in magma blocks

Bases

Unatwain's house (pig farm inside)

  • Agma Schwa's Bungalow - Held his belongings including many pieces of lore and was regularly feautured in the Nguhstreams.
  • Kate's House - This was originally situated inside a cliff partially affixed to the world border. She dug out the mountain, leaving many parts of her home suspended in the air alongside many contraptions such as an iron door trap and a hole one could fall out of the world from. In Season 1, her house was protected so only she could interact with it.
  • Suqi's House - This was an underground crescent-shaped house with a nether portal that interfered with Old Cuba's primary nether portal, which was used in several Nguhstreams.
  • The Rusty Krab - JANVS' base which was planned to be a tavern that also sells drugs, but that portion of it was never completed. Despite that, there were still some sales made. The Rusty Krab was also home to JANVS' pets and a handful of automatic farms.
  • The Capitol - Fin's base where he held his belongings, but also doubled as the capitol building of Old Cuba. Inside was a communal storage, a library, and mailboxes for the citizens of Old Cuba.
  • Prismarine Island - Fin's storage facility. There were plans to construct at least three more islands with different purposes, but only the storage was built.
  • Stone Platform - An attempt by Fin to make a base outside of the Capitol, but he never progressed past the floor layout.
  • Cuban Real Estate - An initiative was created by Agma Schwa to build a handful of houses as free, temporary or permanent homes for players who wanted to stay in Old Cuba and did not have their own base.

Farms

Noteworthy Farms

  • Great Cuban Farm - A farm originally built by Kate as a crop farm producing wheat, potatoes, and carrots. After being raised into the sky by Ætérnal, it was doubled in size to accomodate for the increased food need of new members and the recently-added Villager Hub. In addition to this, a second layer was added to grow pumpkins, melons, beetroot, and netherwart.
  • Mob Farms - Initially, Old Cuba only had a basic cobblestone mob farm with poor output. A second, more productive mob farm was later built above the ocean with plenty of chests, and AFK pool, a room to sleep in, and a nether portal.
  • Smelting Factory - A building lined with plenty of furnaces and charcoal served to reduce the amount of resources and space people used to smelt items.
  • Acacia Forest/Farm - A small forest of acacia trees planted around Agma Schwa's bungalow.
  • Iron Farm - A farm above the ocean that produced enormous quantities of iron, fulfilling the needs of anybody who took from it.
  • Guardian Farm - Old Cuba was in a very lucky position as it had a ruined portal, multiple spawners, and an ocean monument in roughly the same area. The ocean monument was used to create a low-yield guardian farm.

Other Farms

Old Cuba also had farms for bees, chorus, warped fungus, sugarcane, turtle scutes, cactus, eggs, cows, mooshrooms, sheep, pigs, and a failed trident farm.

Structures

The Overworld

Eddie in its cage
  • Cuban Nether Portal - A ruined portal in Old Cuba's terrain that was the primary access to the nether in Nguhstreams.
  • Large Hadron Collider (LHC) - A location against the world border where early members of Old Cuba would conduct experiements with how the world border works. Other locations were after the Season 1 End farm was built and ender pearls were accessed easily. Players managed to cross the border with ender pearls and travel long distances outside the border with an elytra. Due to this meddling, Ætérnal modified Season 2's world border to prevent any interaction with it.
  • The Cobbelisk - A contruction project by Benny to build a cobblestone tower that reached up to the build limit and down to bedrock. It was completed before Minecraft's build limit was increased in update 1.18, after which Benny expanded the Cobbelisk until it reached the new limits.
  • Villager Hub (VH) - Contained villagers brought from a nearby village to begin a trading outpost. It began with a small stone brick building on the northern beach, but after the amount of villagers began to grow, an enormous underwater VH was built. It was complete with three stories, a villager zombification system, a villager breeding area, and an automatic food farm. Players worked to ensure villagers provided cheap trades and all the enchantment books necessary.
  • Cuban Bakery - Provided free baked goods to the citizens of Old Cuba and left out two tables full of cakes under the Great Cuban Farm for anyone passing by who may be hungry.
  • ŊcDonald's - A McDonald's built by Suqi under the Great Farm. The project was abandoned by them and they proceded to "grief" it, making it appear as if it had been blown up by TNT (TNT was not used as it was disabled in Old Cuba). Suqi alerted Ætérnal that it had happened, prompting Old Cuba to become protected and only accessible to known citizens. Once an investigation was about to be launched, Suqi confessed to the prank.
  • Cuban Railway - Connected Old Cuba to Nguhrizona and Wolfland. After it was built, its Wolfland stop was connected to the Great Ice Bridge that connected several other countries and locations.
  • Cuban Beacons - Provided beacon effects for more efficient operations in Old Cuba. The Cuban Bakery had one of the beacons, it was colored with the rainbow pride flag. The second beacon was near the cactus farm, and it contained the transgender, asexual, demiromantic, and bisexual pride flags, pertaining to active Cuban citizens.
  • YOPAP (Ye Olde Potions and Poisons) - A potion store.
  • Eddie's Cage - A cage built to contain Eddie the Endermite, a murderer.

The Nether

The nether's Great Ice Bridge connected Old Cuba to more locations than the overworld's Great Ice Bridge, including Sweden-Ŋərway, Mainland, The Artipelago, a nether fortress, and more. The Mainland nether hub contained an area with many portals, one of which led to the server's only accessible stronghold. The Artipelago's nether hub was stationed next to a bastion.

Near the Cuban nether hub was a stairwell leading up to the nether roof.

Enclaves

Old Cuba had two small enclaves that existed at different points in its history and were not very active.

  1. Christiania, a colony of Sweden-Ŋərway. It had acacia walls separating it from the rest of Old Cuba, but they were removed at some point and the country was seldom mentioned again.
  2. The Hazbin Hotel (after its namesake in the Hazbin Hotel series' pilot episode) was a wooden hotel built high in the air and did not resemble the real Hazbin Hotel in any way. It also contained a small 1-by-1 fish tank with a fish in it. While it was only a building and not formally a part of Old Cuba, it was a regular sight in the country.

Quirks

Due to Old Cuba being the primary location in Season 1, Ætérnal placed administrative protections on the territory to allow only citizens of the country to interact with it, along with preventing mobs from spawning in the land. This and a multitude of other commands administrators used in Old Cuba contributed to the country having several oddities, including floating bedrock, underwater rain, sourceless lighting with a sourceless shadow, a door half-sunken in the floor, and a multi-sided piston (also seen under Season 2's Spawn).

Old Cuba in Season 2

Most of the landmass of Old Cuba was not copied, only the western region, which had the most activity. Coldba's snowy taiga biome converted Old Cuba into a snowy biome as well, but Ætérnal stepped in and reverted the biome back to a savanna. Several ocean structures were also not brought to Season 2 including:

  • the ocean mob farm
  • the iron farm
  • the guardian farm
  • the Cobbelisk
  • and others

Season 2's End dimension has not yet opened, so when Old Cuba was placed in Coldba, the chorus farm became protected so that no one can access it until the End is opened.

New Structures

MAGNVS' house

MAGNVS moved into Old Cuba and built his house over a section of pre-Cuban land that was close to the main area.

The Coldban Freezeway

A high-speed rail line has been made to connect Chillvana, Old Cuba, and Frostanamo Bay. A "freezeway" with Soul Speed and Riptide Trident access was constructed to connect Chillvana and Old Cuba. Along the freezeway, a replica of Old Cuba's deleted mob farm is expected to be built.

Behind his abandoned Season 1 base, Fin planted small garden of torchflowers and pitcher plants and placed sniffers for people to replant if they take the plants.

Old Cuba was pasted near a pillager outpost. There are plans to transform it into a pillager farm for the area.

New Quirks

Cuban snowy grass blocks

As a result of the transition from a snowy taiga to a savanna biome, most of the snow has melted off the grass blocks but the texture of snowy grass blocks has not updated, leaving a few spots of the Cuban ground with bare snowy grass blocks. However, they are not obtainable in that state. If mined with a silk touch tool, they revert to normal grass blocks.
