A map of Cuba at its peak of activity.

Old Cuba /ɔld ˈkjuːbə/, previously and informally known as Cuba, was a nation from Season 1. Old Cuba was the nearest-east land of Guam 1, south across the Southwestern Sea from Wolfland, west of Nguhrizona, and situated against the world border. As most active and prosperous location in all of Season 1, it became a home to many players and hosted a variety of structures and farms.

Before the transfer from Season 1 to Season 2, Ætérnal copied multiple structures of the world to paste into the new server. Included in this was an incomplete portion of Old Cuba, which was pasted in on September 2024 between Chillvana and Frostanamo Bay in Coldba (Cuba).

created by KateThePanPlate on December 16th, 2020. Kate made herself empress and ruled Cuba with an iron fist. It started out as a barren Savanna biome where Kate would make her base along with a few other members (Agma Schwa and Timo).

Notable Events

Structures

Bases

Agma Schwa's bungalow held his belongings including many pieces of lore and was regularly feautured in the Nguhstreams.

Kate's house was originally situated inside a cliff partially affixed to the world border. She dug out the mountain, leaving many parts of her home suspended in the air alongside many contraptions such as an iron door trap and a hole one could fall out of the world from.

Suqi's house was an underground crescent-shaped house with a nether portal that interfered with Old Cuba's primary nether portal, which was used in several Nguhstreams.

The Rusty Krab was the base of JANVS and was planned to be a place to sell alcohol and other drugs, but that portion of it was never completed. Despite that, there were still some sales made. The Rusty Krab was also home to JANVS' pets and a handful of automatic farms.

The Capitol was Fin's base where he held his belongings, but also doubled as the capitol building of Old Cuba. Inside was a communal storage, a library, and mailboxes for the citizens of Old Cuba.

The Prismarine Island was Fin's storage facility. There were plans to construct at least three more islands with different purposes, but only the storage was built.

The Stone Platform was an attempt by Fin to make a base outside of the Capitol, but he never progressed past the floor layout.

A Cuban Real Estate initiative was created by Agma Schwa to build a handful of houses as free, temporary or permanent homes for players who wanted to stay in Old Cuba and did not have their own base.

Major Farms

The Great Cuban Farm was first built by Kate as a crop farm producing wheat, potatoes, and carrots. After being raised into the sky by Ætérnal, it was doubled in size to accomodate for the increased food need of new members and the recently-added Villager Hub. In addition to this, a second layer was added to grow pumpkins, melons, beetroot, and netherwart.

The Mob Farm was a basic cobblestone mob farm with poor output. A second, more productive mob farm was later built above the ocean, complete with plenty of chests, and AFK pool, a room to sleep in, and a nether portal. The second mob farm was not pasted into Season 2.

The Smelting Factory, a building lined with plenty of furnaces and charcoal served to reduce the amount of resources and space people used to smelt items.

The Acacia Tree Farm was a small forest of acacia trees planted around Agma Schwa's bungalow.

Minor Farms

Old Cuba also had farms for bees, chorus fruit, warped fungus, sugarcane, turtle scutes, cactus, eggs, cows, mooshrooms, sheep, pigs, iron, guardians, and a failed trident farm. The iron and guardian farms were not pasted into Season 2. The chorus farm has been placed under administrative protection due to items from the End being contraband until Season 2's End dimension is opened.

Other Structures

The Cuban Nether Portal naturally spawned in Old Cuba's terrain and was the primary access to the nether in Nguhstreams.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was a location against the world border where early members of Old Cuba would conduct experiements with how the world border works. Other locations were after the Season 1 End farm was built and ender pearls were accessed easily. Players managed to cross the border with ender pearls and travel long distances outside the border with an elytra. Due to this meddling, Ætérnal modified Season 2's world border to prevent any interaction with it.

Cuban Border Art as part of the intrigue of living next to the world border, plenty of art was created agaisnt the dirt wall that used to be part of a cliff in Old Cuba. In addition to that, the text "SEND NUDES" was commanded into the Cuban sky in blue flames.

The Cobbelisk was a contruction project by Benny to build a cobblestone tower that reached up to the build limit and down to bedrock. It was completed before Minecraft's build limit was increased in update 1.18, after which Benny expanded the Cobbelisk until it reached the new limits.

The Villager Hub (VH) contained villagers brought from a nearby village to begin a trading outpost. It began with a small stone brick building on the northern beach, but after the amount of villagers began to grow, an enormous underwater VH was built. It was complete with three stories, a villager zombification system, a villager breeding area, and an automatic food farm. Players worked to ensure villagers provided cheap trades and all the enchantment books necessary.

The Cuban Bakery provided free baked goods to the citizens of Old Cuba and left out two tables full of cakes under the Great Cuban Farm for anyone passing by who may be hungry.

ŊcDonald's was a nguh-themed McDonald's built by Suqi under the Great Farm. The project was abandoned by them and they proceded to "grief" it, making it appear as if it had been blown up by TNT (TNT was not used as it was disabled in Old Cuba). Suqi alerted Ætérnal that it had happened, prompting Old Cuba to become protected and only accessible to known citizens. Once an investigation was about to be launched, Suqi confessed to the prank.

The Cuban Railway connected Old Cuba to Nguhrizona and Wolfland. After it was built, its Wolfland stop was connected to an ice bridge that connected several other countries and locations.

Cuban Beacons provided beacon effects for more efficient operations in Old Cuba. The Cuban Bakery had one of the beacons, it was colored with the rainbow pride flag. The second beacon was near the cactus farm, and it contained the transgender, asexual, demiromantic, and bisexual pride flags, pertaining to active Cuban citizens.

Eddie's Cage was built to contain Eddie the Endermite, who began attacking players after it spawned from an ender pearl.

Enclaves

Old Cuba had two small enclaves that existed at different points in its history and were not very active.

  1. Christiania, an Swedish-Norwegian anarchic nation. It had acacia walls separating it from the rest of Old Cuba, but they were removed at some point and the country was seldom mentioned again.
  2. The Hazbin Hotel (after its namesake in the Hazbin Hotel series' pilot) was a wooden hotel built high in the air and did not resemble the real Hazbin Hotel in any way. It also contained a small 1-by-1 fish tank with a fish in it. While it was only a building and not formally a part of Old Cuba, it was a regular sight in the country.

Quirks

Due to Old Cuba being the primary location in Season 1, Ætérnal placed administrative protections on the territory to allow only citizens of the country to interact with it, along with preventing mobs from spawning in the land. This and a multitude of other commands Ætérnal used in Old Cuba contributed to the country having several oddities, ranging from mysterious lighting in the ocean to the creation of a multi-sided piston.
