Puans are natives or inhabitants of Pua, or sometimes more broadly any people who are of Puan descent or native speakers of the Puan languages including the Puan diaspora. The term applies to natives or inhabitants of Pua as well as Pihi which has a substantial ethnic Puan population.
Punese was thought to be an exonym, rather it references the Puna Iti sea separating the two former signatories of the Transpunese Economic Union. When used as an exonym it is considered to be pejorative by most Puans.
