French, also known as Proto-French, Proto-Ultra-French, and Fr*nch is an ancient language and ancestor of languages like Ultra French, Italian, Latin or Occitan. Today French is only used as an administrative language and might only have a few fluent speakers if at all. The modern form of the language, used by these speakers and administrators, is called Modern French.
Phonology
French's most notable feature is the whatever rhotic /ρ/. It was realized very differently by different dialects of French, leading directly to the wide range of rhotic realizations in its daughter languages.
