Minaro-Cohasia Autonomous District, also known as Mico or Sirenguard, is an autonomous district belonging to the Free City of Yetch Bay. The district is known for its unique underground settlement and the Great Bamboo Disk. The district is located on the Khallisiphia in the center of the Great Sea. In 1601, the Minarian people arrived on the island. Republic of Khalisinia was founded by the Minarians and Cohasians in 1826. The ŋation fell into a dictatorship in 1875, in which it was renamed to Republic of Sirenguard. In 1951, Free City of Yetch Bay invaded and incorporated the ŋation in order to assert dominance on the Yetch Bay. Nowadays, the district remained distinct from the rest of Imerchal and the Ŋorld, being ahead in technology but still lacks behind in socioeconomic aspects.
History
Pre-Minarian Era (1550s - 1620s)
The Minarian people were thought to have diverged from Proto-Pono-Minarian people in the 1550s. Evidenced by recognizable cognates between Modern Minarian and Toki Pona. The ancient Minarian people might have migrated northwest through Þunan Qumreá and Marcyland, as seen from Middle Kyawcenni and Śácamþaśá loanwords in the language. The Minarian concept of a guardian divine mermaid (Siren) might’ve stemmed from Śácamþaśán mermaid deities. According to folklores, the Siren guided Minarian people northward and to settle on the third island they see. Assuming they sailed straight northward from Marcyland, the first island they’d have seen would be the Sheep island (, Republic of Kyaw Cen, KKC) and the second island would be Parkow island (, Republic of Kyaw Cen, KKC). Although, their fleet might’ve splitted into two, with one group having Khallisiphia as their third island and another having Draungeris, evidenced by Old Minarian artifacts being found in Draungeris.
Minarian Era (1620s - 1826)
The Minarians are thought to have settled on Khallisiphia in the early 1600s. According to Imerchali records, the first Quing, Wawəj I, proclaimed herself a God, which angered the Siren and caused her to banish the Minarians underground and forbid them from settling over the ground again. There isn't much evidence that the Wawəj dynasty existed, for most if not all have been destroyed by the dictatorship regime. Wawəj I - Wawəj VII are thought to have existed, but their existence cannot be confirmed. The Minarians settled in a large cave and dug rooms into the cave wall, in which the cave is now called Kirin. Their food source consisted of underground fish, glowberries, and Khalisinian Cow meat.
In the 1750s, Siamese-speaking Cohasian people migrated from South Ildorgear to settle elsewhere after disagreements with the local government, splitting from the Vixennic people. They migrated westward and were informed by Imerchalis that there is an “empty” island in the Yetch Bay. The misunderstanding that the island was empty might’ve stemmed from sailors not seeing any over-ground settlements on the island, and assuming no one lives there without realizing that there are actually people but they live underground.
The Cohasian people arrived in Khallisiphia and went down the staircase where they met up with the Minarian people. According to legends, a person volunteered to help the two groups communicate, somehow knowing both languages even though the two languages were spoken on the opposite sides of the Gulf and there’s no way anyone could’ve known both.
The earliest evidence of trade between Khallisiphia and other ŋations dates back to 1797, and they are trade receipts between “an·meinar” and several merchants from pre-Imerchal Nahan people. Receipts show that their main imports are foods and lumber, while their main exports are ores (mainly redstone and copper), and stone materials (stone, cobblestone, granite, and deepslate). While the trade was mainly bartering, records showed that currency such as emeralds, diamonds, slablets and slab shavings had been used to some extent.
There is not much historical evidence about Khallisiphian cultures due to most historical records being destroyed during the Cultural Reset. Though according to foreign records, Khallisiphian society revolved around clans. Each clan has their own field of expertise. With every member of a certain clan being expected to learn the skill of the expertise and have a relevant occupation. Marriage often meant someone leaving their own clan and joining their partner’s. They were also expected to change their occupation and learn new skills, even though they already have a different occupation and skills.
There was no concept of the binary gender system. People dressed, acted, and expressed themselves however they wanted. Even though marriage is not limited to gender, they’re thought of as a financial decision rather than a romantic one. Due to them being underground, the dead cannot be buried easily. So they resorted to baking their ash into a brick.
Republic Era (1826 - 1876)

In 1783, both sides signed the Treaty of Kirin which divided the north side of the staircase to Minarians and south side to Cohasians, with the staircase and the overground being shared by both sides. 2 years later in 1785, Cohasian people dug tunnels into the stone wall and founded Plaza. In 1826, Thuna “Sǎtþāh” Cynthia Octasoia, accompanied by multiple scholars and Quing Wawəj VII officially declares the Republic of Khalisinia to be a sovereign ŋation and her as the first Thuna (title equivalent to President/Quing). She then went on to rule for another 33 years until she resigned due to health concerns in 1859. The treaty established the Culfuna as the state’s legislature. With the Culfuna having to meet these requirements:
- The Culfuna must have at least 16 seats
- The amount of seats must be an even number
- Exactly half of the Culfunists must represent Cohasians, and another half represent Minarians.

The last clause aimed to make the Culfuna fair to both parties by equally representing both of them. But at the time, the Minarian population outnumbered the Cohasian by 3 to 1. This caused several protests against the government by Minarians that would eventually lead to the coup. The Thuna is to be an elected office, having power equivalent to Presidents of today. There is no term limit or term. The only ways someone could cease being the Thuna is to resign, die, or get voted out by the Culfuna. Every month, the Culfuna may call for an approval rate survey. If the Thuna’s approval rate is under 40%, an election is to be held. The treaty also specified an official flag for Khalisinia. Though the official construction guidelines were never given, an image was provided instead.
The Red-Green-Blue flag is known colloquially as The Ribbon, Nasinulí “color path”, or Þæ̌b Sáhm Síh “three color stripe”. It is thought to have stemmed from the color of ribbons worn by merchants. Mimicking a rainbow, they were worn to let the Siren know that they’ve come overground with good intentions. And just like a rainbow, they’ll not be there for long.
The post-Cynthia republic era was thought to have 2-3 Thunas, but was ended with a violent coup by the People’s army. Khalisinia industrialized relatively fast, with the main fuel being redstone, geothermal energy, and coal, three of which are abundant underground. Khalisinia was considered by many to be “the closest thing to Steampunk”, and some even claimed that “if they had been overground, they would’ve invented powered flight.” Even with industrialization, the clan system still stands, moving away from each clan teaching their members to perform manual labor to buying plots with the “clan’s money” to build factories. Though Khalisinia was still far from self-reliant. It still needed to import large amounts of food from foreign couŋtries. But now textile and redstone equipment was also one of their main exports.
Healthcare in Khalisinia was also more advanced than other couŋtries at the time. This is due to the knowledge gained as byproducts from their main research priority; curing Redstone Blight. This research project was started by Thuna “Sǎtþāh” Cynthia Octasoia during near the end of her presidency. According to sources, she was the first recorded case of Redstone blight. Due to redstone’s glowing effect that charmed many, it has been used in cosmetics and accessories. People used to wear redstone clothes, apply redstone paste into their teeth, trace their veins with redstone paint, dye their hair with redstone dye, and wear redstone contact lenses. This amount of exposure to redstone which has never been seen before anywhere else caused Redstone Blight to almost exclusively occur within Khalisinia. In some languages, Redstone Blight is called “Khalisinian disease” or similar.
Dictatorship Era (1876 - 1951)
The treaty of Kirin said that exactly half of the Culfunists must represent Cohasians, and another half represent Minarians. Even though the Minarian population outnumbered the Cohasian by 3 to 1. This caused outrages amongst the Minarian population, and several protest broke out while the government did nothing. At the time, some speculated that Khalisnia was going through a famine. The 2 problems may’ve caused the government to be incredibly unpopular. Eventually leading "Hilda" Gunhilda Uthala to form the Popular Clique and essentially launched a coup against the government in 1876. The popular clique consists of people from all walks of life and a sizable amount of mutinied soldiers. They promised to solve the famine and reform the government. They installed bombs in the Culfuna hall, and detonated them during a session. The sheer amount of explosion force caused the room to collapse. No trace of the first Culfuna hall is left to this day. All Culfunists, the Thuna, and the vice Thuna are dead. And President Gunhilda Uthala proclaimed the Popular Clique the new government.
The Gunhilda Administration made some rapid changes, such as introducing English as a lingua franca between the Minarians and the Cohasians and by extensions outlawing Minarian and Cohasian in public settings, changing the name of the ŋation to Sirenguard (calque of Khalisinia, from Old Minarian Khalalisĩphija “The Siren is protecting”), and building an underground food farm. They, however, did not do any reform to the government. They dismantled democracy and imposed a one-party state. The Thuna can only be appointed by the previous Thuna. The regime tried many times to settle overground, but all attempts were foiled by massive typhoons. Sirenguard would not attempt to settle overground again until Stemon administration in the 2020s.
The pre-Sirenguard society was culturally and linguistically diverse. With the population being mainly divided between Cohasian-speaking and Minarian-speaking. And some smaller groups speak Mosici, Kyawcenni, and Guazas, to name a few. This makes conversation and business between groups hard, for these languages are all from different families. Cultural differences also thickens the barrier. The regime saw this and their solution is to impose a new common language. This new language must be neutral to all, being equally easy/hard to learn to all different linguistic groups. Esperanto was considered, but English was eventually picked because it was already a trade language at the time. All Sirenguardeds must learn English and give themselves an English name. The regime went as far as to make speaking other languages than English illegal in public places. The regime also aimed to destroy the cultural differences by assimilating everyone into being “culture neutral”. Almost all books were burnt, cultural artifacts destroyed, traditional arts and crafts outlawed, and history rewritten to fit the regime’s narrative.
The regime was tough on opposition. A narrative was promoted which claimed that anything against the regime was anti-Sirenguard. And that the dictatorship regime is inseparable from the people and the ŋation. Protests were brutally crushed by the military. All of the news outlets were owned by the regime and worked to promote it.
In 1902, a group of socialist protesters dug a small settlement and proclaimed themselves the Khalisinian Liberation Front, directly challenging the regime. Many Sirenguardeds joined the KLF before their settlement was put under siege by the regime. Eventually, the regime broke through the defenses and captured the rebels. To prevent any further rebellions, all rebels were given a Thunan pardon and Lipertia was officially made a canton.
The during the 1900s, the regime showed supports towards non-clan businesses, aiming to increase competition in the market. Several non-clan businesses were formed at the time, competing with clan businesses. With them not being limited by their family members and being able to hire people based on skills instead of ancestry, they proved to be more efficient and produced better products and at a faster rate than clan-owned businesses, eventually driving most of them out of business. A lot of those businesses would eventually be bought and acquired by an ex-Thuna “Rose” Rosswell Esun in 1931. He merged competing companies together in order to form a monopoly. Eventually, he would went on to form Rose Corporation in 1940.
The regime showed little to no care about education at all, with parents being expected to hire tutor for their kids and several private tutoring classes being open left and right. Schools were never built during the regime’s reign. Some kids who excelled in education were sponsored by the regime to go study abroad and use the knowledge to improve Sirenguard. One of the branch that the regime showed the most support to is Biomedical technology.
The regime, following the vision created by “Sǎtþāh” Cynthia Octasoia in her last years of Thunancy, prioritized medical technology in order to cure Redstone Blight and other disorders and health effects that came with being underground. Mass vaccination programs proved effective in preventing disease. In 1950, Sirenguard’s first and, to this day, only centenarian turned 100, with the help of biomedical technology replacing her decaying limbs with robotic ones.
Imerchali Era (1951 - 2000)
Due to being built along the staircase, most of Sirenguard was lodged underwater, facing Imerchal. During a survey carried out by Imerchal, they discovered that roughly 30% of Sirenguard is under Imerchali water. This caused several border skirmishes between the Imerchali and Sirenguarded Navy. With both sides not willing to back down, in 1951, The Free City of Yetch Bay officially declared war on the Republic of Sirenguard. Eventually, due to lack of battle experience from the Sirenguard side, the government of Sirenguard surrendered and Imerchal completely annexed the Republic of Sirenguard. But due to them surrendering and not putting on much of a fight, Imerchal decided to let Sirenguard maintain autonomy, but as the Sirenguard Autonomous District under Imerchal.
Imerchal put the pro-Imerchal Sirenguarded Minister of Technology “Al” Allen Mataggin, in charge of the district as the Thuna. He quickly blamed the loss on Sirenguard being behind Imerchal in technology, and signed the “Technology First Act” to focus the government’s spending on technological advancements, economic growth, and spend less on “non-important stuff” such as agriculture, environment, and especially ethics.
Sirenguard quickly accelerated in technology during his rule. With multiple slabs being used to fund researches held by the newly founded Sirenguarded Institute of Technology and Research. The SITR researched multiple subjects. With some being a massive success such as artificial womb and sapiens AI, while some never came into fruition such as cloning and their own Crystallized Æther Bomb, both of which were quickly stopped by Imerchal.
The newly invented computer quickly becomes mainstream in business and industry and Sirenguard also had a sizable microcomputer community. The regime sent thousands of students to get educated by the Chalmosique University and using the knowledge to improve Sirenguard. Some of which decided to not return.
Multiple groups of Imerchali settlers came to Sirenguard and dug their own settlement, building an underground artificial island on an artificial lake. The settlement was called Matagia, from the Minarian word mataco “island”. They all take on the clan Matagin, Mataghin, or Mataggin, all 3 coming from Matagia.

Population
As of January 2025, Minaro-Cohasia Autonomous District has the population of 513,294, decreasing every year since 2016 onwards. Political instabilities, lack of economic mobility, and underfunded social programs caused the newer generation to have fewer kids if any at all and some to migrate to other couŋtries.

Approximately 48% of Micoans are melic (feminine), 43% are meriac (masculine), and 9% being taunusic (gender non-conforming or belonging to a different gender system). In January 2025, about 49% of Micoans aged 18 and above were married, 4% were widowed, 10% were divorced, and 37% had never been married. In January 2025, the total fertility rate stood at mere 0.6 children per couple.
Religion
Minaro-Cohasia has 3 main religions; Sirenism, Ætérnalism, and Nahanic folk religion. Seholism, and Atheism have also become more popular recently. In January 2025, 39% of Micoans were Sirenist, 21% were Ætérnalist, 18% followed Nahanic folk religion, 18% were Atheist, and 4% were Seholist. Though, after the emergence of Theoism and the Siren War caused public opinions about the Siren to change drastically, there are likely more Theoists and less Sirenists in reality.

Minaro-Cohasia has a very diverse population; with intermingling between races and species due to breakthrough in bioscience technology which allowed any more than one consenting adults to create a child, regardless of amount, gender, race, or species. Thus, most if not all Micoans have mixed ancestry. But they can be mainly divided into 12 groups based on the ancestry of their parents.

Minaro-Cohasia saw a low immigration rate due to the district’s reputation on the global stage as chaotic, underdeveloped, and unstable. But amongst those who immigrated into Minaro-Cohasia, about 56% are from Kyaw Cen, 39% are from the rest of Imerchal, and the other 3% are from the rest of the world.
Urbanization
Due to being part of a city state, technically 100% of Minaro-Cohasia is within an urban area. Which is not far from the truth. Due to being a cave settlement on a small island, every piece of space has to be claimed from a cave or dug into the stone. Which means that 100% of Micoan live in an urban area. Due to the fact that Minaro-Cohasia entirely consists of urban areas with no rural settlement or suburbs, due to there not being enough space for them.
Health
An average Micoan life expectancy at birth was 72.2 for men, 74.8 for women, and 76.1 for gender non-conforming folks. Minaro-Cohasia has advanced healthcare technology compared to other places. With the local government prioritizing funding the research of biomedical technologies in order to combat the low birth rate. Most diseases can be cured within days or weeks. Even with this, Redstone Blight still plagues approximately 15% of the population. Pregnancy is rare in Minaro-Cohasia due to artificial womb being very widespread and pregnancy being seen as putting oneself under torture for no good reason.

In 1959, page 16-19 of the May Edition of the “Housecity Magazine (For Teens!)” included a section on “Personality Quiz! What is your gender?” Which decides whether the quiz taker is a meria (equivalent to male) or a meli (equivalent to female), basing them loosely on the binary gender system. The quiz would also recommend the taker on how to act, speak, dress, and behave oneself according to the gender they got. The test becomes massively popular, to the point of almost everyone taking it and assigning themselves a gender. Thus, Sirenguard went from a genderless society to a gendered one in about 3-5 years. Though, some disagreed with the quiz and decided to assign themself with the gender they want, or refusing to take the test and having a gender, being considered non-binary or taunus.

Minaro-Cohasia Autonomous District has a democratic government. With the Culfuna being the district's council and the Thuna being the governor. Each session, the Culfuna would bring up 1-4 "matters". Usually being policy, laws, or issues or problems that need fixing. The Culfuna will discuss them and vote on whether to pass them or not. The Thuna and the vice Thuna would also vote on it because they're technically still members of the Culfuna. Then the Thuna and the vice Thuna will vote amongst each other whether to pass it or not. If they disagree (1-1), then the tiebreaker goes to the Shaman who represents the Siren and her will. The current Thuna is President "Skyla" Skyler Nyancy. The Culfuna currently has 64 seats in total. There is no term limit to being Thuna. The district can have its own laws, diffrent from that of the rest of the FCYB, but is still under the Imerchali constitution.
