Avazistan (Armenian: Ավազիստան Avazistan) is a decentralized democratic ŋation located in Ŋafrica. It is currently administered as a protectorate under joint rule by Hummland and Oberia

Etymology

The name Avazistan is coined from the Armenian words ավազ avaz suffix -ստան -stan which respectively mean "sand" and "country". This name was deemed fitting given the geography of the country which is essentially covered in deserts and mesas.

The region in which Avazistan is located has been formerly referred to as Sandland by MAGNVS in informal contexts, before the name Avazistan was coined. The Autonomous Region of Karmirsar in Oberia was often referred to as "Little Sandland", and then as "Little Avazistan" when the name was first coined, and dropped for Karmirsar instead.

History

Prehistoric Avazistan

The oldest settlements in Avazistan are remnants of an ancient civilization predating Avazistanis. They have left a large mine network, trial chambers and other villages that are now occupied by villagers.

First settlements

The current Avazistani population came to Ŋəfrica through sea invasions that destroyed prior civilizations, of which it is theorized that the local villagers are remains and descendants. They started establishing small chiefdoms which then grew into full blown kingdoms.

Conquest of the Desert

As they tried to unite the region by conquering neighboring kingdoms, the various warring states often created or extended large irrigation systems and networks through the desert, which allowed for florishing agriculture and commerce. During that time, many technologies were developed, especially in the ancient kingdom of Karmirsar.

Avazistan Empire

Through the conquests of Hayim the Conqueror, Avazistan was united under the rule of an emperor for the first time.

The Empire developed large public works program, including several palaces, gigantic furnaces and storage for the humongous raw resources found in Avazistani soil.

Terraforming programs were also widespread and successful.

Seeing no interest in interŋational politics, Avazistan concealed its existence from the rest of the world and existed in total autarky, never seeking to interact with its neighbors or the UŊ except in occasional, purely fortuitous instances.

Civil war and joint Oberian-Hummlandic intervention

During the coronation of Arew the Great, a band of angry pillagers randomly raided the Summer Palace. As a result, this created a power vacuum in the empire, which led to a devastating civil war that destroyed most of the infrastructures in the empire, including the palaces and the road network.

Worried that the instability might spread to their own borders, the Peasants' Republic of Oberia and Hummland decided on a peacekeeping intervention in Avazistan to pacify the region and bring the rule of law back in the Great Desert.

Modern-day Avazistan

Due to the destruction caused by the civil war, Avazistan is nearly devoid of any population and infrastructure. Oberia and Hummland consider this region to be a failed state under their joint-administration, and have remodeled the institutions of the Avazistani State to fit their needs and ideology.

Supreme Commissar of Oberia MAGNVS is currently leading an archeological expedition to try and recover the long-lost secrets of Avazistan, as well as a restoration mission to rebuild its great cities.

Geography

As the name implies, Avazistan is mostly covered in sand and mesas. However, the Avazistani kingdoms have developed through the Conquest of the Desert and vast irrigation programs that saw the development of various "green spots" in the Avazistani desert.
