Vallis Draconum (English:), often referred to as the Draconian Republic or Respublica Draconum, is a country in the south of Ŋafrica, north of the Rauratoshan Kingdom and south of the seven territory.

Etymology

"Vallis Draconum" comes from the Latin words "vallis" (valley) and "draconum" (dragon), meaning literally "Valley of Dragons." In Latin, it is rendered as "VALLIS DRACÓNVM".

Geography

Demographics

Languages

English is used as a lingua franca in Vallis Draconum. However, the native language of the region is Latin, and Japanese-speakers have also been long-term residents, as the "pocket monsters" native to the former Elemental Republic are said to come from Aylongam.[citation needed]

Vallis Draconum largely writes in a continuation of Classical Latin, much like Regnate Latium. However, Latinate residents of Vallis Draconum often speak in a separate dialect known as Ferritumulic Latin. The Regnate digamma letter, <Ⅎ>, is sometimes seen in place of <V> where it is /w/ in Classical Latin, and is used where a standard romanization of Japanese would use <w>, but other Regnate neographs are unused.

Politics

Vallis Draconum, politically, is the result of a fracture in the historic nation of the Elemental Republic. Vallis Ignium, the former capital of the Elemental Republic, is still the administrative center of Vallis Draconum, in spite of its closeness to the border with the Rauratoshan Kingdom.

Governance

Main article: Politics of Vallis Draconum

Vallis Draconum is nominally a semi-presidental republic, with the President and Prime Minister both sharing substantial executive power. The Prime Minister is appointed by the President, and the Prime Minister and their cabinet are exclusively accountable to parliament of Vallis Draconum. The President is elected every 5 years, through a two-round system, while the parliament is elected every 4 years, with first-past-the-post voting.

The government of Vallis Draconum was previously under the rule of the totalitarian Traditionalist Party from 1945 to 2024. Elections were held, but were considered to be neither free nor fair, with two exceptions (1995 presidential, 1996 parliamentary, both annulled by the government).

Economics

The "marcam argenti" (silver mark), often shortened to simply "argentum", is the national currency of Vallis Draconum. (Insert backing information here.)
