Nsadaean /(n-)sə'diːjən, -deɪjən/ (Nsadaean: Mȧs ṣa Nsârre /mɛs ʃa nsa᷅.rɤ/) is the language spoken by Nsadaean people in the Manitarilant islands. It is the majority language on all of the islands of Nsadaea as well as on the island of Nsûmâfen in Dróstsiśtsi’s Manitarilant province. Nsadaean is mostly analytic, with some fusional elements present in its particles and in the nouns that inflect for case. Nsadaean is currently an unclassified language.

The phoneme /χ/ is not ever pronounced as a trill or fricative trill *[ʀ̝̊]. Its frication is very weak compared to many other languages with uvular fricatives, leading some^[who?] to consider it a devoiced uvular approximant, [ʁ̞̊] or [χ̞].

For some younger speakers, /r/ has shifted in pronunciation to [ɾ], and/or /ɹ/ to [ɹ̝] or even [z]. These changes are usually restricted to less formal contexts.

/k/ is allophonically palatalized to [tʃ] before the vowels /i/ and /ɛ/. The consonant /ŋ/ has undergone a similar change and thus is not distinguished from /ɲ/ in those positions.

Before a rising tone, the stops /p, t, k/ allophonically become ejectives [p’, t’, tʃ’, k’].

/v/ is allophonically devoiced to [f] when in coda and when before a rising tone.

The small community of speakers on Nsadaea’s least populous island, Nsûtumîk, possess notable differences in their pronunciation of some consonants:

• Speakers on Nsûtumîk have nearly completely merged /ʃ/ and /s/, pronouncing both with [s]. The palatalized allophone of /k/, [tʃ], has been fronted similarly to [ts].

• Historical coda /t/ is still distinguished from coda /s/, unlike in the standard form of the language (where only /s/ occurs in coda). Coda /t/ is pronounced on Nsûtumîk as a non-sibilant alveolar fricative [θ̠].

Warning:

The original Cambian script was created for an unrelated conlang that does not exist within the world of Nguhcraft. Nsadaean was created specifically for Nguhcraft and does not exist within that universe. However I still get to adapt the script here for Nsadaean because I can do whatever I want. Cambian context is provided cause thats the fun part.

Latin

Nsadaean, when written using the Latin alphabet, uses 19 letters, as well as 4 letters with diacritics and one digraph. The system is nearly fully phonemic, but there are some exceptions. The largest of these exceptions is that a coda /s/ in some words is written with <s> and in others is written with <t>. This difference in spelling purely reflects etymology, and mostly cannot be predicted by the pronunciation of the word. However, there are no words with a plain vowel occurring before a coda /s/ where <t> is used.

Proper nouns are capitalized when using the Nsadaean Latin alphabet, as well as the first words in sentences. However, particles such as ṣi and ês are never capitalized, and do not count towards being the first word in a sentence. Thus, in the question êṣi Nten hahurût pȧr mânamȧṇ ki?, ("What did you eat for breakfast this morning?") the word nten ("morning") is capitalized, not the word êṣi ("at the time of the").
