The Preservation Party is a political party in Rauratoshan. They platform themselves on agrarian support, and have a traditional Rauratoshanian view on the role of the government.
History
Up to modern Nguhcraft
The roots of the Preservation Party go back to before the establishment of Parliament, and even before the Rauratoshanian incursion. The Preservation Party began as a cabinet of advisors to Queen Setlan, the last regent from House Randa. After her death, the cabinet was sent away by King Azbin IV. However, the group stayed together, forming the Preservation Press, a propaganda mill for Randan ideals and against House Mohito. Soon afterward, members of House Randa themselves started supporting the project.
Around the time of the Rauratoshanian incursion, the Preservation Press turned outright into the Preservation Party, initially hoping to sway the new quing regent, Nozomi I, to not annex the Elemental Republic. However, their cries fell on deaf ears. Ironically, the royalist propaganda mill ended up calling against the rulings Queen Nozomi I was making. After the parliament was established, the Preservation Party quickly made a bid for seats, and although many of their elections failed to produce any results, the most critical election, that of Preservation Press editor Kokoya Randa, succeeded.
Maraśa and the constitutional crisis
In the Maraśan Civil War, the Preservation Party meddled with Rauratoshan's diplomatic mission to figure out what was going on there, hoping to set up Quing Nozomi as god-queen of Maraśa. It did not have the right to determine who went on the RRS Setlan, of course. It even received aid from the Madness Multiverse Mansion for this purpose, promising the Office of War that if successful, "the crown of Kanata would no longer exist." However, intermediate between this agreement and the actual sending of the envoy, some members of the Office of War side of this agreement received word that MP Randa would take the crown herself, rather than be content with destroying the credibility of the monarchy. Therefore, they placed a Nether portal on the Setlan.
This Nether portal proved to be vital in the proceeding events. The Preservation plant, Ambassador Saireth Asánraho, successfully convinced Maraśa's sun priests that Quing Nozomi was Ityn, Queen of The Galaxy, a divine figure in Maraśań belief. The Preservation Party saw this as a no-lose scenario: either Nozomi proves she's not divine, in which case Maraśa most likely kills her, or she takes over, in which case Nozomi's anti-imperial desires would result in her abdication from Rauratoshan's crown. Instead, Nozomi attempted to hatch a plan, discussing with high-ranking military generals, her PM, and her Court of Justice to try and figure out what to do to get out of this. While no formal decision was actually made as to how to prove she was not divine, plans involving the "accidental" stabbing of Nozomi were discussed. Plans to have the Rauratoshan Transportation Administration build an emergency rail in the Nether for a fast exit were approved, though Nozomi would need to bring the materials to make the portal, or so they thought: the Madness Multiverse Mansion informed the RTA that they already had a Nether portal on the Setlan. This is what ended up happening, but much to MP Randa's dismay, Nozomi did escape, blowing up the portal behind her to ensure no Maraśań would follow.
Partially as a direct result of this incident, the fuse was lit on a constitutional crisis. Animosity between the MMM and the Preservation Party continuously mounted, which sent shockwaves throughout the entirety of Rauratoshanian bureaucracy. The Rauratoshan Office of the Frontier, appalled at the results of the Preservation Party's antics, filibustered attempts by the Parliament of Rauratoshan to get the office filled, for example.
Beliefs
- The role of the government is to protect its people.
- Unitarianism: A large bureaucracy is suboptimal for this purpose, because too much time will be spent arguing over problems instead of solving them. Ditto separation of powers.
- The role of the people is to provide resources which the government can allocate.
- Isolationism: An open-border policy is suboptimal for this purpose, because it invites elements that have no intention to support, or may actively oppose, the government.
- Divine right to rule: The Preservation Party supports Rauratoshan's classical mandate of heaven, and sees the modern deëmphasis of religious affairs as "part of the woke agenda."[citation needed]
- Theocratism: In fact, beyond the mandate of heaven, the Preservation Party wishes to install an outright theocracy, where the quing regent is also the equivalent of the Pope for Yukacan. Increasingly, their signoffs involve prayer to Nahotayu, the patron deity of Palontana and thereby Houses Randa and Paloma.
