Maraśa SArAmA [ⁿbɐrɐʃɐ], formally the Queendom of Maraśa rmonItu NSArAmA [ⁿbɐrɐʃɐɲ tunɪmɑːr], is a country located south of Phoeŋix and north of Zotazil. It is theoretically part of the Continent of Hlambigla, although in practice most of the nation is located below the waters of the Nalinakal Sea, and its only natural land area are three islands, the northwestern Earth Island, southwestern Nature Island, and eastern Sun Island.
Etymology
In Śácamþań mythology, Maraśa is a type of afterlife realm inhabited by immortal mermaids (Śarac TrASA). It has been compared to Atlantis or Elysium. This name was applied to the nation due to its location being largely underwater. In the same vein, the capital is Śaracþáw wzoTrASA ‘City of Mermaids’, while the land above it is Qáłqinþáw wzon//iqLqo ‘City of Mortals’.
Origin
Maraśa was founded by exiles from Þunan Qumreá following its dissolution. Paranoia regarding the end of their ŋation led them to extreme religious zealotry, and so they strived to create the mythological precursor mermaid civilisation of Śácamþań belief. This divine right was the only context in which monarchy was acceptable to them (Tunema mAnItu is reserved for such divine mermaid monarchs only). Having mastered conduit technology in The Temple to Áj and The Guardian of the Lighthouse, they aimed to apply this on a country-wide scale. This had the added benefit of effectively making dissent impossible, as conduit access could be revoked by the central government at any time.
Geopolitics
Maraśa inherits part of its geopolitics from Þunan Qumreá, though its size makes a similar Ŋlobal Power status currently unlikely. Unlike its predecessor, it is not member of the Starshield Pact, but is a member of ŊATO. This reflects a continuation of a gradual shift in politics in Þunan Qumreá, which initially saw Enkavak as its primary geopolitical rival for trade reasons, but gradually aligned with it against Coldba and Realm of Madness, in particular after Coup Sabah. Following The Sack of Ŋájaþáw, political paranoia regarding The Coldban Menace Theory made this shift permanent.
Due to a general lack of activity, Maraśa does not have close relations with any of its neighbours or near-neighbours, with the exception of the Lesbian Uhaul Express Line connecting it to Jotlond, another Þunan Qumreáń successor state.
