Script

Calutan's script is Copaþ, an abugida written right-to-left.

The letters 󲂠 (b), 󲁘 (ŋ) and 󲂨 (g) are used only in loanwords.

Phonotactics

(C)V(C)(C)

  • Words cannot end with more than one consonants
  • Most syllabes are CV but sometimes consonant clusters form at the end of syllabes
  • No words end with <s>: e.g. "Pāgus Septimus" is loaned as "Pagsu Septimu"
  • In loanwords, illegal end clusters are pushed back to form a cluster with the previous consonant if there is a vowel in between; otherwise, <u> is added at the end

Syntax

  • Word order is VSO.
  • Adjectives come before the noun.
  • Owners come before their possession.

Nouns, Articles & Prepositions

Nouns have declension on case. There is no declension on gender or number; the partitive case is a sort of indefinite plural.

The cases are 4: nominative, genitive, partitive, and instrumental.

A noun can take an indefinite singular (u 󲂕) or definite plural (utu 󲂍󲂕) article.
