The Chilled War
The Chilled War is the contemporary name for a period of geopolitical tension between The Floracratic Republic of Pua and The People's Floracracy of Pua and their respective allies.
The term chilled war is used because there has been no large scale direct conflict between the two blocs.
Origins of the term
The term chilled war was coined by the General Secretary of East Pua, Peaches to describe the, presently, non-violent nature of the conflict. It is a play on the term cold war describing the same sort of non-violent political conflict between states or blocs.
Background
Following the collapse of the Blossomic Empire of Pua during The 23 Minute War there was an armistice between the remaining opposition forces. The two major groups found little common ground in decisions regarding the governance of the newly independent states and thus focused on consolidating power in their respective territories. The battle in Ŋerlin was even to the extent that neither group could gain a significant enough foothold before the collapse that both powers decided to form a condominium of the city until they could determine the eventual border.
Beginning of the Chilled War
The Puan Peace Accord, following the Scramble for Murbetia and mutual Puan expansion, brokered an official armistice between the two Puas that solidified the borders regarding Ŋerlin and the ownership of Pistil Island.
Raising the Floral Curtain
The Floral Curtain describes the physical, ideological and economic walls placed between East and West Pua and their respective blocs. The most well known physical boundary is the Ŋerlin Wall which splits the former Imperial capital of Ŋerlin in half, it crosses the location of the former city hall which was heavily damaged in the civil war.
Monetary conflict
Both East Pua and West Pua became involved in economic unions, primarily with nearby nations, leading to a mutual bid to sway Xarslasja into joining one of their respective unions. This ultimately culminated in the Xarslasja Legislature voting to join the South Thasusan Common Market Agreement or STCMA.
Rising Tensions
Both the Amujxplosion and Coup Sabah brought rising tensions between the Puas as well as internationally.
Amujxplosion
The sudden and unexpected collapse of all 3 Amuj nations after weeks of fluctuating levels of stability caused one of the largest power vacuums in the region since the Puan Civil War. Many hungry eyes soon found their gaze falling upon the fresh corpses of the Amuj states. Fearing another Scramble for Murbetia so close to home General Secretary Peaches of East Pua issued Order No. 227 with the express intent of allowing Puan self-determination and preventing colonization of the Pua region. The decision was controversial among many nations and was seen as a saber-rattling line-in-the-sand from a jingoist regime. Supporters often gave it the benefit of the doubt as a line in the sand against unjust imperialism.
The Order was deemed a success initially as it caused a few prospective colonizing powers to either adjust their claims or rescind their claim outright in favor of a peaceful transition of power. The former Amujan governments issued a decree that the Amujan territories within the Pua region would be transferred peacefully to East and West Pua. This helped to alleviate tensions in the region during a pivotal point in Xarslasja.
Coup Sabah
With the Amujxplosion ongoing, Gu Sabah launched his coup, contemporarily nicknamed Coup Sabah. This shocked the world due to no one ever really knowing exactly what is going on in Xarslasja and it was a completely unforeseeable event. Many nations jumped on the opportunity to voice support for Gu Sabah and his coup. Some for their own political gain, others purely for the joy of entropy. East Pua was the first to act and a few days later initiated an intervention within Xarslasja. The FRP sent a fleet of ships to blockade the Shea Island Naval Complex along with amphibious infantry units to attempt to break the ongoing siege by XPA forces. West Pua announced verbal support of Gu Sabah and the XPA.
Operation Bezuv Shield
The Shea Island blockade was successful in applying pressure to the XPA forces within the Naval Complex as it forced them to act. On October 25th 2024 TNT cannons from the complex opened fire on the blockading ships turning the hitherto mostly peaceful coup into a full fledged battle culminating in a significant amount of damage and death. The destruction and loss of life was too great for West Pua, and the Pontifex Skrungk renounced support for Gu Sabah and the XPA shortly after the final shots were fired that day.
A New Status Quo
With the lull in fighting within Xarslasja and the almost complete abandonment of Gu Sabah by the international community a new status quo seems to have formed. The previous height of the tensions between the blocs has lessened slightly and focus has shifted south as both East and West Pua work to integrate the newly acquired Former-Amuj territories.
